Welcome to the Molecules, Cells, and Organisms
Summer Research Opportunities at Harvard (SROH) Internship Program!
We are delighted to have you and hope that you will have an enjoyable and educational summer here with us here at Harvard/MCO.
In partnership with Harvard University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) Office of Diversity and Minority Affairs and the Leadership Alliance Consortium, the MCO Graduate Training Program offers a 10-week summer internship to well-qualified undergraduates who are considering Ph.D. careers in the life sciences. Each summer well-qualified interns are placed in MCO faculty labs and take part in current research projects, attend weekly faculty lectures, work with current MCO graduate students as peer mentors, and take part in joint field trips with other Harvard summer programs.
Launched in 2009, with a small group of six students, our summer program was designed to attract talented biology undergraduates to our faculty labs to experience an enriching scientific program, while simultaneously developing strong and nurturing relationships with these potential future graduate trainees and their home institutions.
During our 10-week program, interns work in the labs of MCO faculty members, participate in a wide-variety of scientific and enriching personal experiences, all culminating in an end of summer poster session and reception, where our interns present their work to faculty and peers. They also present their work at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium, giving them exposure to the broader scientific community. Some of our students have also presented their internship work at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), and have won prizes in both oral and poster presentations. The program was held remotely in 2020 and 2021.
