Noam D. Elkies, Professor in the Department of Mathematics, will present (at the grand piano!) his lecture "Canonical Forms: A Mathematician’s View of Musical Canons." While an undergraduate at Columbia University, Professor Elkies was a three-time Putnam Fellow in mathematics. He won the 1982 competition at the age of sixteen years and four months, making him one of the youngest Putnam Fellows in history.
